Event overview:
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Easter masterpiece, the St John Passion, was first performed in Leipzig during Holy Week in 1724. Two hundred and eighty-seven years later the gothic architecture of Bath’s magnificent Abbey, placed literally at the heart of this heritage city, will be filled with this moving Easter pageant.
The concert, promoted by Bath Abbey Concert Series and programmed by the Abbey specifically to mark Holy Week, will take place on Wednesday 20 April at 7.30pm. It will feature the acclaimed early music ensemble Music for Awhile, led by Baroque specialist Margaret Faultless, and the internationally renowned opera singer Neil Jenkins as the Evangelist.
Nigel Perrin will conduct the concert, which also features his award winning chamber choir Bath Camerata, baritone and Bath Abbey Chorister Craig Bissex as Jesus, and Royal Academy of Music rising star, soprano Mary Bevan.
Tickets cost from £10 to £24 (concessions available) and are available from Bath Box Office, 2 Church Street, Abbey Green, Bath, BA1 1NL, telephone: 01225 463362 email: boxoffice@bathfestivals.org.uk www.bathboxoffice.org.uk.
All profits from this concert will go to Bath Abbey funds.
