Event overview:
Bath Talks Art
Think again about Bath’s cultural life
Time to ask questions, to find inspiration and to learn more about the thinking behind local cultural planning.
Otherwise
Charles Landry in conversation with Steve Wright – Arts Editor of Venue Magazine
What is needed for a city’s cultural scene to thrive and what might we learn from other cities?
How can cities transform their thinking so they make the most of their potential and plan and act with originality?
Need wealth creation and social engineering be mutually exclusive?
.
Charles Landry is an authority on creativity and its uses and how city futures are shaped by paying attention to the culture of a place.
He specialises in helping cities to reach their potential by triggering their imagination and finding original solutions to seemingly intractable urban dilemmas such as marrying innovation and tradition or balancing wealth creation and social cohesiveness.
His work focuses especially on how the culture of a place can invigorate and revitalize the economy, enhancing its sense of self and confidence.
Charles’ approach to city planning assesses the interplay and the impacts of deeper global trends, and attempts to ground these in practical initiatives. He is acclaimed as an inspiring, stimulating and challenging facilitator of transformation.
His book THE ART OF CITY MAKING focuses on how cities can be more "creative for the world" so that the energies of individuals and companies can be brought into alignment with their global responsibilities.
Manchester has commissioned Charles to assess how The Oxford Road Corridor, Manchester’s knowledge hub, can be improved.

These talks are funded by the B&NES Arts Development team. We want to encourage a lively and inspiring forum for ideas and debate about the future cultural life of Bath and North East Somerset.
