Event overview:

In these straitened times it can seem harder than ever for start-up companies to get the support they need to grow.

With almost daily news of spending cuts and downgraded forecasts, independent businesses might be forgiven for thinking all sources of public funding have dried up completely. But this is not the case.

From export to innovation, there are various specific funds available to help your creative business grow and access the knowledge, advice and skills it needs to move forward.

For our summer information session - sponsored by Skillset and the Bath Ventures Innovation Centre - we have put together a panel of experts to talk you through the support that their organization can offer.

When: Monday June 28th
What time: 6:30 - 8:30pm
Where: Bath Ventures Innovation Centre
How to book: sign up here

Please note places are strictly limited. We had quite a few no-shows at our last info session, so please only book if you are committed to coming along to this event.

Annie Warburton from Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the creative industries, can tell you how you can access busaries and support for up-to-the-minute training in the skills your business needs.

Sarah-Jane Meredith and Mehjabeen Pricefrom development agency, South West Screen, will talk about Lottery funding and the new Network for Innovation (iNet) business support programme from the South West RDA. This scheme, which will run over three years, will offer targeted advice and business support for projects focussing on innovation, export or knowledge sharing ideas.

Norris Myers OBE, from UK Trade & Investment, will talk about the support there is available for local businesses to access overseas markets.

Amie Vaughan and Chris Simpson will be on hand from Business Link to tell us about the free, impartial and practical advice Business Link can provide when setting up a business.

And Nick Appleyard, Head of Digital at the Technology Strategy Board will tell us about the £18m competition ‘Collaboration across Digital Industries’, which promises to transform the digital economy.

We will also have comment from Malcolm Brinkworth of Touch Productions, whose company has tapped into various public funding initiatives at different times, enabling them to become an export-led TV documentary maker with a turnover of £1.5 million.

It’s all taking place at the Bath Ventures Innovation Centre, which provides practical support and expertise to local technology enterprises and companies that emerge from the University’s student and academic research base.
