Event overview:

Its been awhile since we've done one of these but there are three gigs that brings superb ElectricGhost favourites to our area. These are all rare chances to see these people are are not to be missed, coming as they do from Norway, Spain and America.

The first two are playing at Moles, or as I like to put it the new Moles. This veteran music venue has recently undergone a change of ownership and with it a rejuvenated sense of purpose. Don't forget to check out their great Music Cafe as well.

Thursday July 15th
Moles, Bath
Katzenjammer – Utterly bonkers Norwegian female four piece who blend folk/country/cabaret/Balkan/blues/carnival mayhem. Absolutely not a novelty act with strong songs and superb musicianship. The all share vocal duties and play 29 instruments. Their live performance has been blowing people way at SXSW in Texas, JaJaJa Club London and The Great Escape, Brighton. Only playing 3 gigs in UK in July (London, Bath, Bristol)

(They are also playing the excellent Mr Wolf's, Bristol on Friday July 16th http://www.mrwolfs.com)

Thursday July 23rd
Moles, Bath
Maika Makovski – Nomadic singer songwriter (Barcelona and New York primarily) whose new album due out later this year. We reviewed her EP in EG29 recently, a taster for the aforementioned new album her third. It was produced by John Parish(PJ Harvey, Tracey Chapman) in Bristol and mixed at Moles Studio, Bath. There have been the predictable comparisons to PJ Harvey but Makovski bring her own smoky, smouldering intensity to her songs and her performance with her band.

The Thekla is one of our favourite Bristol venues. The Duke & The King played an absolute blinder there in April.

Tuesday July 27th
The Theka, Bristol
The Handsome Family – A very welcome return to these shores by Husband and Wife team Brett and Rennie Sparks. They bring a breath of fresh air and honest to God weirdness to American roots music. This time as duo, their dark gothic country folk is totally transfixing. If you've never experienced the magic of the Sparks this is absolutely not to be missed.
