Media Art Bath To Close
Media Art Bathʼs Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to close the organisation as of 31st March 2011.
It is with sadness that the closure of Media Art Bath is announced, which has a history of innovative and critically relevant programming.
They would like to take this opportunity to thank the friends, colleagues and funders for their support over the years including Arts Council England, South West, and Bath and North East Somerset Council who have both regularly funded the organisation since 1999.
They are very proud of the achievements of Media Art Bath and Statement Media Arts (the organisationʼs name up to 2004), and they believe that this is a time to applaud those achievements including commissions of new work by Gail Pickering (2008), Hannah Rickards (2005) and Clare Gasson (2010) as well as projects such as the Media Arts Club for 13-16 year olds (2000-2001).
Media Art Bathʼs commissioning of new work has had a far-reaching impact and longevity in terms of developing expanded presentation and touring opportunities. Exciting recent examples of these outcomes including the presentation of Tom Nicholson and Andrew Byrneʼs, Lines Towards Another Century at the Shanghai Biennale (a MAB commission that premiered at the Holburne Museum, Bath 2008), and the exhibition and performance of Hannah Rickardsʼs Thunder as part of the Contemporary Art Societyʼs Bicentennial Exhibition at The Pier Arts Centre, Stromness, Orkney (a MAB commission that premiered at the Central United Reformed Church, Bath 2005).
This is a time to celebrate the strength, diversity and resilience of the arts and particularly the hard work undertaken by small contemporary art organisations such as Media Art Bath. During the next couple of months they will be profiling our achievements on their website, through emails and social media networks so please keep in touch with them as they celebrate their work.
