June Social @ Komedia
Last night, Creative Bath teamed up with the Artswork Media (AWM) group from Bath Spa University to network with fellow creatives and spread the word about the opportunities for local businesses and graduates to collaborate together.
With many of this year's AWM students in attendance, a range of familiar faces as well as plenty of new ones mingled to find out more about the seemingly endless pool of creative talent that Bath has to offer.
After some initial networking over a few drinks and nibbles, Nic Jeune, Director of AWM, and student, Jessie Barstow, gave us an introduction to how the unique approach taken by AWM provides the students with real experience, producing high-quality content for real clients.
The primary focus of this year's projects was video production, with students able to learn and develop a range of skills of the entire production process. Critically, the scheme allows them to specialise in areas which interest them the most, such as producing, directing, camerawork and lighting. There is also a strong emphasis on teamwork, with students combining their skills on projects to get the best results.
Clients have included Wells Cathedral, the Holborne Museum (Bath) and the Garden Museum (London). Arilda Tymko from Illuminate Bath was also present, expressing her delight at the way in which the AWM students had engaged with them at a professional level.
There were a wide range of questions from the floor, showing the popularity of the scheme, now in it's 3rd year, and the potential that still has to be unlocked.
More networking followed, and it was great to chat to some of the students in person, to see the sort of projects they had taken part in, and the positive approach it has given them in looking for jobs in the future. Following the night, a few creatives have expressed interest in AWM, who look set to strengthen and expand their ties in the next few years.
If you would like to see the work from this year's students, it is on exhibition in Milsom Place until Friday 17th June. More information can be found here.
Thanks to Komedia for providing the venue, and of course Artswork Media for collaborating with us. To see more photos from the event, check our flickr page.
