March Social - How was it for you?
I’ve done it! Still relatively new to Creative Bath and I’ve crossed the first major hurdle. Not organising last night’s social, which went smoothly thanks to the friendliness, co-operation and generosity of Browns and Chateau de Sours, but making and printing out the name labels for the event! It’s always the small details that can make or break an event like last night, but now that I’ve conquered the ‘data merge’ function, the world’s my oyster!
The March social was the first one we’d held at Browns and we took over the mezzanine level, firstly with a networking coaching session, held by Melissa Kidd from Coaching Creatives, and then with the social proper. Over 90 creative professionals turned out to sample the fabulous canapés and sparkling rosé supplied by our sponsors, Browns and Chateau de Sours. I chatted to writers, recruiters, web designers, a photographer or two and a recruitment consultant – and that was just for starters.
It was great to see so many of our members getting together and forging those special connections that can take their business in the right direction. The feedback from the networking coaching was especially positive and we are keen to hold another one for anybody who missed out this time around. We’re already putting one of Melissa’s tips into practice: she advises to get hold of a guest list before any event and target those people you want to speak to. Several of you pointed out to me that the name badges (don’t start!) didn’t include people’s job descriptions so meeting someone potentially useful was pot luck. One way we’re hoping to tackle that is to publish the guest list ahead of future events, so you can see in advance who’s going to be there – and what they do.
We also had approaches and suggestions about other workshops we might look to hold in the future, from navigating the wonder of web 2.0 to voice coaching. Keep an eye on our website and sign up to the newsletter (once you’re registered, go to ‘my account’ and click to subscribe) for news of what’s coming up. A word of warning here, though: times are tough and we can’t afford any no-shows for these events so we are going to introduce a nominal ‘commitment fee’ of £5 or so for future workshops.
One of our members told me – unprompted – that she’d met people at Creative Bath events who have changed her life. In a good way! We may not be able to do that for everyone, but we can at least provide a lively evening to combine a bit of business with a bit of socialising. Pictures, courtesy of Amanda Thomas from Amango Photography, coming soon, some of which will be popping up in Bath Life in April.
See you at the next one (April 12th at the Ustinov Theatre; subject: monetizing your IP).
