Action on Hearing Loss Educational Day Service is a full-time provision supporting adults who are deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind with additional needs. Based in Twerton not far from Bath centre, the service provides a rich tapestry of activities including art, craft, ceramics, woodwork, life skills, music, drama and more. As well as the chance to be creative, the service provides opportunities to socialise and develop key skills in numeracy, literacy and computer use, and other useful life skills such as budgeting, road safety, cultural and historical projects and exploring the locality.

We pride ourselves on our person-centred approaches and encourage the people we support to be as involved as possible in every aspect of what we offer. Our dedicated staff team are skilled in their respective areas, including a committed team of volunteers.

As well as providing a service for people in the community, some people who are supported by our local residential and community services attend our sessions. Toni, who’s been attending for over many years, says “I enjoy trying new things – painting, ceramics and jewellery making”.

We have many links within the community taking part in a wide range of events working with groups, artists and other companies and charities to enable our service to be as diverse as we can. We are the only service of its kind in the country for Action on Hearing Loss.

There’s a small gift shop on site, where the people we support help to sell their products and talk about what they do. You can order products such as mirrors, footstools, gift cards, boxes and picture frames online too. You’ll see pictures of product samples, but your piece will be unique and tailored to your colour preferences and tastes.

We welcome donations of equipment and materials, recycling many of these to make products which are sold in our gift shop. Visitors can meet and chat to the people we support and can arrange a full tour of the service, just contact us for more information.

We are always seeking funding for many other areas including exhibiting work, framing, visiting artists for workshops, trips out, materials and equipment to offer new and exciting projects.
