I am currently based in Grand Cayman, having moved over here just over a year ago, after being head hunted for the Head of Brand and Communications for Digicel. It’s been a fantastic year of learning, both in and out of the office.
However, the telecoms market is becoming increasing marginalized by the likes of Whatsapp and Facebook and the time is right to look for a new challenge. My wife and I have family in Bath and got married there, so it’s the place we have always wanted return to, plus there is a strong pull to the rugby team too.
Career wise the move to Cayman has given me fantastic opportunities to develop my leadership and strategic skills that were somewhat restricted in an organization the size of O2. What really enticed me was the opportunity to really turn around a business and brand that had lost its way and re-invigorate it. In a short space of time we really did that and stepped away from the follower mentality that exists with Digicel and really take the fight to the majority market share holder, Lime, now Flow.
Before moving to Cayman I lead the Prepay Acquisition team at O2 managing a P&L with revenues of 425m GBP. The roles at O2 were commercially focused, an element that really fired my competitive instincts as budgets got tougher and customers became more challenging to find.
In my next role I am looking for a leadership position as I believe I can add a lot of value to any new business plus really focus on developing the team around me, a real passion of mine. I have been lucky enough to have some very good managers so far in my career and I want to pass on this knowledge with the aim of people regarding me in the same light I do my previous leaders.
I understand the fact that I am in Cayman might make the process tricky, if I am lucky enough to get that far, but in the Digital age we now live, I hope, between Skype, Facetime or the good old telephone I can convince you I am the right candidate for the role.
